Swaroop Elamon is an independent writer-director based in Toronto. Originally from India, he holds a background in Political Science and went on to pursue his passion for storytelling through cinema by earning a postgraduate diploma in Film Direction from the prestigious L.V. Prasad Film and TV Academy in Chennai.
His creative journey spans short films, music videos, short documentaries, and digital content. To date, he has directed over 25 short films, two music videos, and two short documentaries, showcasing his versatility as a filmmaker. His writing credits include multiple short films, feature-length spec screenplays, and documentaries.
Swaroop wrote and directed two episodes of the fiction anthology series EKAM, starring Prakash Raj and Raj B. Shetty, which is currently available to stream on ZEE5. Since relocating to Toronto in 2022, he has directed over ten short films and a music video, with selections at festivals including Reelworld Film Festival, Oakville Film Festival, Blood in the Snow Film Festival, Insomniac Film Festival, and the International Film Festival of South Asia, among others. His screenplay "Burrow" was a finalist in the 6th Canadian Short Screenplay Competition (CSSC).
Swaroop's storytelling style is rooted in emotional depth, often blending realism with subtle absurd or psychological elements. His work explores themes of displacement, memory, grief, and identity, frequently centered around characters navigating cultural or emotional dislocation. Whether working in drama, comedy, thriller, mystery, or more experimental forms, Swaroop brings a deeply human perspective to each frame, guided by layered visual detail and sensitivity.Â
Beyond film, Swaroop has worked in the theatre community as a writer, sound designer, and actor.
